The last two weekends I signed up to run in a couple of 5K's. For a while I didn't think they were worth my time, with the time involved to drive to the location and run for 30 minutes or less it seemed unproductive. However, recently I've been educating myself on ways to improve my running and have found that those 5K's are actually a good way to measure your improvement.

Spending time with my mother and learning more about Dementia along the way. Sometimes its all about changing your expectations of the person so that you can accept them at the stage they are when dealing with this disease. It is something I continue to struggle with. I want the mother that I had, and need to continually remind myself that she is no longer... So instead I'm trying to learn to enjoy...

The other day we had the opportunity to meet up with my cousins and aunt for a lunch get together and to go through some of my grandma's and aunts scrapbook supplies and chocolate molds. I feel so blessed to have these cousins that are great friends too!

Usually running has occupied the majority of my workout routine, just because I enjoy it that much! But after being injured, I found I had to find other ways to work out and not rely on running as my only form of cardio.

And so, being at the half way point of the 12 marathons for 2012 goal, you would think they would be getting easier, with an improved PR. But I guess I'm learning its about more than improving my PR and completing the races. It is about testing myself through some of the toughest elements and learning along the way.

When I told Joel we were invited by my girlfriend to go out on their boat and to the lake house for the weekend, he was extremely reluctant. Fortunately it fell around the time of my birthday, so I used that for leverage and he agreed to go.

It seems the kids and I do a lot together, but to get Joel away from the business doesn't happen quite as often. While he has gotten better about taking vacations, he still doesn't like to take too much time away from work. This year we took my mom with us to Hilton Head, and with her ailing memory, it too became a struggle for us at times. I'm not sure how many more trips we will be able to take...
